What is this?

The 2022 Gods and Monsters Calendar is the photographic endeavor of Jess Hess / Wurmwood Photography. This comes as a second calendar, with the 2019 Space Babes Calendar having been a huge success. Wurmwood hopes to continue the fun for a new year and a new theme, and to go even bigger and bolder than the last time!

Upon its completion, the 2022 Gods and Monsters Calendar will be a cumulative work of dozens of artists, set designers, prop makers, makeup artists, costume designers, and more. Featuring 12 months of amazing photographic art, the calendar will be tediously planned and created to bring a unique and specific concept to mind for each of the months. Each idea is meticulously planned and prepped, and then our team gets to work making the ideas come to life!

The theme “Gods and Monsters” refers to the powerful beings of lore, legend, and mystery. Anomalies of pure light or total darkness. The things of old magic, tall tales, and the deepest recesses of our imagination. The beings represented in this calendar will be an amalgamation of ideas from all over the world, and perhaps some new. Inspiration will be taken from mythological gods, demons, creatures, deities, folklore, and spirits of the Earth.

Can I model for the calendar?

To find our models, we rely on a friendly competition. Anyone wanting to model for the calendar can sign up. All hopeful models will be required to make a $5 donation, which is non-refundable and goes directly towards the early production of the calendar and running the competition. At the end of the signup period, a voting period will be announced. During this time, our participants will be encouraged to share their voting link to have their friends and supporters vote for them to be one of the winners. Keep in mind that we don’t charge for votes, nor do we offer larger vote quantities in exchange for money. All participants will have to rely on their friends, fans, and hard work to get them a spot, and it is not reliant on who can spend the most money to win. This competition is open to individuals of all sizes, colors, creeds, genders, sexes, or denominations. You will, however, need to be at least 18 years of age or older to register. For anyone who participated last time, we will be making several changes in the way voting is done this time around. Some of those changes include;

  • Limiting votes to one per person, per day, rather than the previous method of one per hour. This will allow our participants some time to BREATH, and not need to keep on their toes all day every day to get their votes.

  •  Hiding vote counts. You won’t see where you’re ranking or who is voting for you, but we will. This, coupled with 24/7 vote monitoring will help provide a clean, fair, and honest competition.

  • Running our voting system on a more secure, private, and custom platform. This allows us greater visibility with our voters so we can not only monitor the fairness of the competition, but stop and remove all bots from participating in the voting process.

What are the rules?

The rules are crazy simple, remember these;

  • You do NOT have to be a professional model or have experience to register or win. This competition is open to ANYONE who wants to try! This also means you do NOT have to submit a professional image to join. You are more than welcome to use a selfie if that is what you choose to do.

  • If you do submit a professional photo for voting, you MUST have permission from the photographer who took the image to use it, and have specific permission from them to use it in this competition. All participants are reliable for their own submissions, and assume responsibility for any infringement they may cause as a result of not following this rule.

  • No one deserves to win more than anyone else, this is for fun. This is a friendly competition, and as such we insist that you refrain from making negative comments or nasty remarks about the other competitors. Competition CAN be rough, especially when you put a lot into winning. Give it your all, but respect others for doing the same.

  • You’ll be expected to travel to the Wurmwood Photography studio in Dayton, Ohio if you are chosen to model for the calendar. You’ll also need to dedicate yourself to prompt responses in terms of sizing, planning, and schedule so we can make the process as seamless and uninterrupted as possible.

  • Anyone who is being a poor sport or souring the competition, or is conducting themselves in ways dishonest to a fair vote (ie; Trash talking, buying votes, etc.) will be removed from the competition immediately, without a refund of the $5 donation to register. Anyone caught cheating in any way will be banned from ALL future related competitions.

Begin Shooting!

Shooting, planning, and set making will start immediately!

What if I win?

Here’s where it gets really fun. The 15 participants with the greatest number of votes will be named our winners! The top three with the most votes will also get some extra perks! Once winners are chosen and announced, everyone will be added to a secret group where we can plan, discuss, and celebrate! The final concept list will be posted in the group, and each winner will take turns selecting the theme/concept they wish to do. Winners will get to pick in order of their winning rank, so the first place winner will choose first, second will choose second, and so on. The 11th & 12th place spots will share a page, and the 13th, 14th, & 15th place winners will share a page. The 11th-15place winners will have their theme selected for them, as their pages are group photos.

Once our concepts are finalized, we’ll get to work and begin shooting for the calendar!

Can I.....?

Sign up as a photographer for the project?

Unfortunately, no. This is a calendar and project-specific to Wurmwood Photography and the collaboration of other unique artists. I would love to host a bigger collaborative project in the future with multiple photographers if that becomes of any interest to anyone.

Help with makeup/hair/wardrobe?
Yes, absolutely! We’re looking for a little bit of everyone to help with this project. We’re going to need your skills to help pull this together. Furthermore, if you want to volunteer a lot of your time or resources, consider becoming a sponsor of the project. Sponsors work closely with us and donate a lot of their time/skills/etc to helping us complete our sessions. As a sponsor, your willingness to volunteer is shown off, by way of your logo/name in the printed calendar, posters, other printed material, digital advertisements, and more for the duration of the project. You’ll be a vital part of our team, and be given credit every step of the way!

Help out with anything else?
For sure! We need help painting, building, discussing, planning, demolishing, searching, gluing, and panicking to meet deadlines! We’re going to need every bit of help we can get to make this the best it can be. If there’s anything you think you might want to help with, just let us know! We will also host several work parties for the project, where folks can get together and create props, sets, and more.

Help by making props/costumes/etc that I can keep? Or lending my items? Absolutely! If you’re providing your own materials and creating something, you don’t have to give up anything you don’t want to! We’re still more than happy to have you onboard to help out, and would still love to have you lend us pieces to use.

How to Sponsor

  • Want to sponsor the 2022 Gods and Monsters Calendar? Small businesses and artists can join our sponsors in one of three ways;

  • 1. Volunteering time or products to help complete the process of the calendar. This can be done by donating your designs or by making custom items to fit our themes (such as costumes, props, etc.), or by otherwise actively helping in the completion process of the calendar. This can also include volunteering your time and creative skills with set design, makeup, and more. Alternatively, for items or products of high monetary value, businesses and artists may opt for their goods to be loans rather than donations, and will be returned upon completion of their use.

  • 2. Donating your direct products, gift cards, or gift packages to offer as prize packages for our winning calendar models, or as part of a series of after-project raffles. Projects with giveaways tend to yield a significantly higher interaction rate, and will be seen by a considerably higher number of individuals, also leading to an increase of participants. Your donations will be used to advertise for the project in the form of prizes and participation gifts.

  • 3. A one time, direct cash donation.

Sponsorship Tiers

  • Tier One: Businesses and artists donating a significant amount of volunteer work or products. This can include designing and providing our costumes, providing needed props and accessories, donating raw materials, makeup, and other supplies, and more. This also includes businesses or artists who donate a product/service of significant value to use in our prizes and giveaways. This is for our top sponsors, those of whom we cannot create the calendar without. Tier One sponsors are listed on the top of the sponsors list, with their business logo displayed larger than tier two and three sponsors. These business logos will appear on the printed calendar, as well as all digital advertising for the duration of the project. That’s near constant advertising for roughly one calendar year.

  • Tier Two: All businesses donating or lending materials/resources/goods to aid in the completion of the magazine. This can include a business donating a prize for our calendar model winners, or a prop that can be auctioned after use to help fund the production. Tier Two sponsors are listed between Tier One and Tier Three sponsors, with their single color business logo printed slightly smaller than Tier One sponsors. These logos will appear on the printed calendar, as well as all digital advertising for the duration of the project.

  • Tier Three: All individuals participating in the creation of the project, or who have made any sort of donation, even of the smallest amount. This includes anyone who volunteers their time for work parties, who assist on the shoots, and those who help spread the word and advertise for us. Tier Three sponsors are listed by their personal names or business names (in a single color/font) on the printed sponsor page in the calendar, as a special thank you for helping us complete our goals.

Why Sponsor?

  • To help local artists. A calendar is a terrific way to showcase an incredible display of talent and skill from multiple artists. For big projects like this, multiple creatives come together and weave a web thick with artistic collaboration. It helps expose new and seasoned artists alike to new viewers, fans, and peers.

  • To get a slice of that advertisement. A calendar is a uniquely brilliant marketing tool. It is an advertisement that lasts for a year, and that people enjoy making, displaying, and utilizing. Not only is the creation a fun and largely broadcast process, it becomes something that multiple people pour their hearts into to see its creation. These are people actively and constantly advertising for you, sharing our ads with your logos, and becoming familiar with your unique brand and building a great working relationship with not only them, but everyone they share you to.

  • Last time, it was worth it! Our 2019 Space Babes calendar was a huge hit, and a wonderful success! An entire 7 months of planning, building, advertising, painting, sculpting, shooting, and more culminated into one of the most fun and largest projects of my entire career. The buzz was insane, and the project gained massive amounts of support from peers and fans. The competition for winners was fierce, with constant advertising for each girl and sponsor every day of the voting. This led to great increases in sales, likes/views/follows, and calendar sales. We hope to bring that lively spirit and that excitement forward to this calendar, and we hope to see this project be even bigger!
